Definition: | slow wave guided along a surface
Note 1 to entry: The guiding surface can be the surface separating two media or an imaginary surface associated with a periodic structure. The reduction in the phase velocity can be obtained, for example, by means of a dielectric layer with high absolute permittivity covering a conductor, or by transverse grooves in a conductor, or can be the result of the finite conductivity of a conductor.
