Note 1 to entry: This quantity is expressed in J kg−1 and the special name for the unit of dose equivalent is the sievert (Sv).

Note 2 to entry: The values of Q are specified by the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP). For beta, X, and gamma radiation Q is taken to be equal to unity for external radiation.

Note 3 to entry: The dose equivalent should not be taken as the equivalent dose to a tissue or an organ. It is a separate radiation protection quantity.
