NOTE 1 – In most multichannel PCM systems using basic pulse code modulation the standardized effective digit rate is 64 kbit/s.
NOTE 2 – Signals, other than speech signals, having appropriate specified characteristics may occupy the whole or part of a PCM telephone channel.
