Term: gyromagnetic coefficient (of an electron)
Synonym1: gyromagnetic ratio (deprecated)
[Preferred]
Synonym2:
Synonym3:
Symbol: γ
Definition: of an electron in a gyromagnetic substance, the quotient of the magnetic area moment due to spin by the angular moment of the spin

NOTE 1 – The angular precessional frequency ω of an electron is related to the applied magnetic field H by the expression: ω = γ μ0 H

where μ0 is the magnetic constant and γ is the gyromagnetic coefficient.

NOTE 2 – For a free electron the gyromagnetic coefficient approximately equals: 176 × 109 C kg−1.
