ENBump-in-the-Wire
In security, the addition of encryption boxes at either end of a communications link, just after the connection of the devices/system. One encryption box takes the plain text messages from one device and encrypts them, while the other box receives the encrypted messages and decrypts them back into plain text, and vice versa. This approach provides external encryption and avoids the need to embed an encryption function within the device. (Common usage)
