IEC 62261 - Television Metadata Dictionary

Welcome to the IEC Television Metadata Dictionary

Scope

The metadata dictionary defined in IEC 62261 covers the use of metadata for all types of essence (video, audio, and data in their various forms). It is maintained by TC 100 / TA 6 (Audio, video and multimedia systems and equipment / Higher data rate storage media, data structures and equipment).

The dictionary structure provides flexibility in capturing metadata and exchanging it among applications through a standardized hierarchy of universal labels for the metadata elements, grouped to aid their management within a small but comprehensive number of classes. Metadata classes are collections of metadata elements with common characteristics or attributes. Additional classes are provided for user-defined metadata.

Browsing and searching

The database may be browsed via the classification tree to display the definition of each class, subclass and element. The contents of the database may also be searched by class or element names, free text search or item designator.

Copyright

The structure and content of the IEC databases are copyright of IEC. IEC encourages the use, referencing or citation of the contents of the databases for the purpose of identifying or clarifying the meaning of electrotechnical concepts, terms and symbols and their use in manuals, diagrams and equipment. IEC should be referenced as the source. Duplication of the databases or the extraction of substantial portions of them for commercial exploitation or for free sharing is prohibited without the explicit, written approval of the IEC.
